Resident Water Champion - Tim
Work with the weather, not against it
Reducing or turning off your irrigation doesn’t have to mean a dull, lifeless garden.
Tim from Nightcliff has shown that with a bit of planning, you can keep your garden lush and healthy, while saving water and money.
“I’ve got my irrigation down to one day a week, and my garden still looks great, even with a low rainfall in the wet,” he said.
“We simply don’t need to use so much water, and the bonus is saving on bills.”
Through this process, Tim discovered the diversity in his garden and how its ecosystem works. He learned to group plants with similar watering needs and to plant new ones before the rain arrives, so they can take advantage of the wet.
Working with Darwin’s tropical climate has been a game changer.
“It’s crazy to use so much water here,” he says. “I’ve started planting more native species that aren’t water hungry.
“Using less water helps plants develop deeper roots, making them stronger in the long run.”
Tim’s now a true water-saving champion. Proof that smart watering keeps both your garden and your wallet healthy.
