The lawn low down by Nick Day!
Meet Nick!
It’s the laid back lifestyle that’s kept Nick Day here in the Territory all these years.
This certified irrigation designer and turf farmer has worked in the industry for over 35 years, living and breathing all things irrigation, turn and lawn.
Read the ‘lawn down’ from Mr Day:
What is your favourite plant and why?
My favourite plant is the lawn. It looks great when it’s well maintained.
What is your best tip for a water efficient garden in the dry season?
Be sure to set a regular water efficient irrigation schedule and mulch your plants.
What is your best tip for a water efficient garden in the build-up?
In the build-up, install a rain sensor to turn your controller off and on after a good rain.
What is your best tip for the garden in the wet season?
Be sure to fertilise towards the end of the wet.
Why did you choose landscaping/gardening/irrigation as a career?
I was born into the water industry by working for my father who was a plumber.
If you weren’t being an expert irrigator what would you be doing?
Easy, fishing!
Anything extra you would like to add about gardens that you think could benefit the community?
While poorly designed and installed irrigation systems may be cheaper initially, they will use more water and end up costing you more in the long run.
