Peter's bush to backyard guide
Peter has lived in the Territory for over 43 years, with 10 years in the bush and the last 30 years in Virginia.
An ardent gardener, he loves the dry season and storms in the wet.
“The Top End is just great! Laid back lifestyle and people. Superb fishing and camping, without the crowds. I love the dry season and the storms in the wet,” he says.
What’s your favourite plant and why?
Grevilleas! They are a good screening bush with great bird attracting flowers and need little water and maintenance.
Top tip for the dry season?
Mulch, mulch, mulch. Preferably hay.
Best tip for the build up?
Make sure you seasonally adjust your automatic irrigation controller to counter the large trans-evaporation rate in Darwin.
Top wet season tip?
I recommend fertilising your garden towards the end of the wet season.
