Data loggers

What’s a data logger?

A data logger is a clever little device that tracks your water use in real time. It spots unusual spikes in use - or steady, constant flow - that could mean you’ve got a leak.

Using smart technology, it automatically records your water consumption and sends the data back to Power and Water.

That way, we can quickly see when something’s not quite right and help you fix leaks before they waste water (and money).

Where do they live?

Data loggers are installed at metering points of businesses or organisations around the Territory. They were originally introduced for Darwin rural residents with a Private Water Main connection to monitor water use and identify potential leaks, but are now used to support our work to detect water leaks.

How will I know if the data logger detects a leak?

Power and Water regularly check data loggers for any unusual water use. If we spot anything that looks like a leak, such as unusually high or constant use, we get in touch.

Data loggers are used by businesses and organisations only. We have placed over 40 of them around the NT and use the data to check for leaks in places such as schools and ovals.
