Hidden household leaks are causing eye watering losses

Darwin residents are losing a huge amount of water each year in leaks, causing their water bills to shoot up, often with no obvious reason why.

Living Water Smart found that one in six Darwin homes are leaking an average of 500kL of water per year. Visually speaking, that’s 2,635 large wheelie bins of water!

Leaks can go unnoticed for years. A leaking toilet, barely discernable to the naked eye, can lose over 200kL of water per year.

Luckily, fixing leaks is easy, so it’s well worth checking your house for leaks to avoid water waste and save money on your water bill.
